The Old Hanoi Archive
A growing shelf of photographs and short notes about the Hanoi of yesterday and today, kept for visitors who want to understand the city, not just see it. Hanoi keeps its own memory in community groups, family albums and poems; this archive gathers the pieces we are given, translates the feeling of them, and names where every piece came from.

Hoan Kiem Lake, framed by its own trees
The Turtle Tower seen the way Hanoians actually see it: through the branches of the great trees that ring the lake.

A cyclo passes the Turtle Tower
Before the motorbike, Hanoi moved at this speed. A cyclo drifts past the lake in the morning sun, the oldest view in the city carrying the slowest vehicle in it.

Morning light on Phan Dinh Phung avenue
Two rows of ancient trees, red festival banners, and sunbeams straight down an empty road. Our own photograph of the avenue west of the quarter, taken on a Sunday morning.

Every photograph names where it came from. Work from this channel's own camera is labelled as ours. Material shared by Hanoi communities is published with its source credited, never as our own work, and legends are labelled as legends. If a piece here is yours and you would like the credit changed or the piece removed, write to us through the channel pages and we will act on it promptly.
